Here are some pics of my latest sculpt in clay. They are not yet dry enough to fire... a WIP!
The tallest is about 25cm tall.
I think I am starting to find my form with the clay - really enjoying the challenge.
Each piece has a heart shape on the body and my aim is to inspire/evoke an emotion/connection with the viewer....hope you can see it.
Linda.
Here is a sneak peek at my new doll which will appear in the Australian Dolls, Bears and Collectables due out in late Nov. It was really great to be asked again to make a doll for the magazine and I really enjoyed making an all cloth doll - though she has some fun mediums to explore in her creation.... but you will have to wait for the magazine LOL!
So here is the next stage - body done but nothing fired as yet - hope she does not explode!!! I will make textile wings and keep the colour to the birds, buttons and heart (which will hang off her belt). She is 2 piece in construction - hedging my bets that if something breaks then I may only have to redo half!!!
Here is a pic of my first head sculpt in paperclay. I will build this up into a body form - once her design comes to me! I want to incorporate some textile into the finished piece after glazing and firing so I need to have a definite plan before I go any further. Like any medium there is so much to learn...almost scares me as I want to create straight up....but I think it will be happy part of my journey.
Life is moving along fast - hard to keep up sometimes. I have started a sculpture class which is proving to be a fun exercise. Still want to keep the focus to textiles and I think the medium will work well with this. Here are some little owls I have been making - building up my box of sales items for the latter part of the year!
Here are my 3 little birds I just made with paperclay and copper wire. Love that paperclay....will have to make some more. Perhaps a good item for Etsy?
Just made this handbag and thought I would share. The fabric comes from Morocco and was kindly gifted to me. It is nice and roomy and has a zippered pocket and a phone pocket inside and is lined with blue silk.
FINALLY, a new doll. I am so excited to have finished her - well nearly. Still a bit of tweaking to do and a different animal will eventually be in her hands. It is one of those funny things about my life - often I wonder why I make dolls - BUT when I am making one, sculpting a face, drawing the features and seeing the spirit develop I KNOW WHY I am drawn to this type of art.
